Category: Academy
By: Daniel Mazur

„The World in Motion – Mobility unites“ – this is the motto for the Day of Engineering at which experts will be discussing prospects and risks of future technologies on the 7th and 8th of May 2007 in Mannheim.

As a part of this event Formula Student Germany (FSG) will be offering a workshop on the 7th of May for students to prepare for participation at the design competition in August. From 9am to 2pm information will be given on preparations for technical inspection as well as the static and dynamic events.

The details about the technical inspection will include how to prepare the vehicle and what equipment is needed. Typical critical aspects which occurred in last year’s event will be presented. There will also be time for specific questions: come with your own data and discuss it with the FSG scrutineers.

As preparation for the static events, valuable hints and information will be given by the responsible judges on how to successfully compete in the statics. For example, details on cost calculation that are not specified in the rules.

The dynamic events will be presented and details will be given on how to set up a race car for a successful competition on the race track. Experienced engineers will explain methods for optimizing the race performance of the vehicles.

After the workshop, there will be a lunch break at 2pm. From 3pm to 5.15pm talks will be held by Wolfgang Tiefensee, the German Minister of Transport, Building and City Development; Günther H. Oettinger, Minister President of Baden Wuerttemberg as well as Tim Hannig, the Chairman of the FSG steering committee who will be presenting FSG. Afterwards, contacts can be made and sustained at a “Get together”.

Registration for the FSG workshop includes participation at the DIT and must be submitted by the 25th of April. The registration fee of 5 Euros per person must be paid by that date. The number of participants is limited to 150 on a first come first served basis. Official language will be English.
