BBC Top Gear will not visit Formula Student Germany

Category: General, Competition, 2015

To celebrate the 10th edition of Formula Student Germany the organizers had planned to allow two extra teams to the competition, as a surprise for all participating students. These would not be just any teams, but two very special teams, namely the presenters of BBC Top Gear and DMAX D Motor TV shows. Both teams would be allowed to build their own, rule compliant, Formula Student car, to see which nation is better at building race cars, England or Germany. Unfortunately, due to recent events the Top Gear team can no longer participate and the project has been canceled.

Instead, we are now happy to announce that the Stig and the Stig's German cousin will visit Formula Student Germany. They will not bring their own cars. Instead all teams are offered to have either the Stig (or the Stig’s German cousin) as driver in the Formula Student Germany 2015 competition. Any teams wishing to apply are asked to prepare an application and upload it in their “My Team” section on this website. An expert Jury will decide which teams will be awarded the additional driver and which Stig will join which team. Only applications which are received before Monday 13 April 12:00 CEST will be considered.

Whether any (former) presenters of BBC Top Gear or DMAX D Motor will still visit Formula Student Germany in celebration of its 10th anniversary remains uncertain. Representatives from both programmes have indicated they do not want to comment at this point in time.
