The first three dynamic events – SkidPad, Acceleration and Autocross – showed in addition to the ability of the race cars the competence of the student teams’ drivers, who geared their vehicles up to outstanding performances. The Autocross in the afternoon had to be shortly halted due to strong rains. On the damp track the teams continued the race either with rain tires or slicks. The rest of the day stayed dry, so that all teams were able to carry out some of the four tries on a dry track. The best try of each team counts. The results of the Autocross, which are publicised on Sunday morning, determine the starting order of tomorrow’s long distance race – the Endurance – of 22 kilometres.

The winner of the Skidpad is the team of the TU Delft, the Acceleration was won by Helsinki Polytechnic.

Yet again the Formula Student Germany looks back on another successful day. The formal guests, amongst them State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics of Baden-Württemberg, were impressed by the student’s professionalism, motivation and commitment.

The summit of the contest, tomorrows Endurance Event, will demand persistence of man and machine. Following the awards ceremony, the Mahle finishing party will give the Hockenheimring’s first Formula Student Germany an adequate closing event. After a few hard days work several hundred students from all over the world will celebrate their outstanding achievements, exchange experiences, meet old friends and make new international contacts.
